Our Accuracy Standards

CGPACal.com is used by students to make real decisions – whether they’re on track for a scholarship, close to academic probation, or need a specific grade to reach a target CGPA. Getting the math wrong isn’t a minor bug for a site like this; it’s the whole product failing at its one job. Here’s exactly how we try to get it right, and what we do when we don’t.

The Formula We Use

Every calculator on this site uses the credit-hour-weighted formula for CGPA and GPA:

CGPA = Sum of (Grade Points x Credit Hours) / Sum of (Credit Hours)

This is deliberate. A simpler shortcut – averaging your semester GPAs together – only produces the same result if every semester carried identical credit hours, which is rarely true for a real degree. We use the correct method everywhere on this site, including in every worked example and FAQ answer, not just in the main formula explanation.

How We Verify University-Specific Content

Grading policy details for specific universities (probation thresholds, Dean’s List cutoffs, grading method) are checked against official sources before publishing – university handbooks, registrar pages, or HEC’s own published academic policy framework. Where we haven’t been able to independently confirm a specific policy detail beyond the standard HEC 4.0 scale, we say so explicitly rather than guessing. Our open reference data (published on GitHub) marks exactly which entries are confirmed and which aren’t, for anyone who wants to check our work directly.

When We’ve Gotten It Wrong

During an internal review, we found that while our main CGPA explanation correctly used the credit-weighted formula, several worked examples and FAQ answers elsewhere on the site had defaulted to the simpler “average your semester GPAs” shortcut – technically imprecise, even though it doesn’t affect the actual calculator tools, which were always correct. We corrected every instance we found across the site so the explanations match the math the tools actually perform.

We’re noting this here on purpose. A site that claims perfect accuracy without ever describing how it checks its own work is asking you to trust it blindly. We’d rather show the process, including the part where we caught our own mistake.

If a calculation, grading policy detail, or explanation on this site doesn’t match your official transcript or university policy, please contact us. Corrections are typically made within a few days, and we would genuinely rather hear about an error than have it sit uncorrected.

University grading policies change periodically. We review published policy pages when we become aware of a university updating its academic regulations, and we welcome corrections from students who notice their university’s current policy differs from what’s shown here.
