The Karachi University GPA calculator below converts your course marks straight into grade points using KU’s own semester table, then works out your semester GPA and your cumulative CGPR (the name the University of Karachi uses for CGPA). Enter your marks out of 100 and the credit hours for each course. Most calculators online use a generic 4.0 scale, but KU’s table is different: an A- is worth 3.8, not 3.67, and a B needs 71%, not 70%. That changes your result.

Karachi University Grading System: Marks to Grade Points
This is the table the University of Karachi publishes for BS, BE, B.Ed (Hons), MS, MPhil and PhD programs on its Semester Examination Section page:
| Marks | Grade | Grade Point |
|---|---|---|
| 90 and above | A+ | 4.0 |
| 85 โ 89 | A | 4.0 |
| 80 โ 84 | A- | 3.8 |
| 75 โ 79 | B+ | 3.4 |
| 71 โ 74 | B | 3.0 |
| 68 โ 70 | B- | 2.8 |
| 64 โ 67 | C+ | 2.4 |
| 61 โ 63 | C | 2.0 |
| 57 โ 60 | C- | 1.8 |
| 53 โ 56 | D+ | 1.4 |
| 45 โ 52 | D | 1.0 |
| Below 45 | F | 0.0 |
Read this table carefully, because it does not behave like the scales at PU or FAST:
- A+ and A are both 4.0. Anything above 85 earns the same grade point, so marks above that line do nothing for your CGPR.
- Some single marks are worth a lot. 70 is a B- (2.8) but 71 is a B (3.0). 63 is a C (2.0) but 64 is a C+ (2.4). In a 3-credit course, that one mark at 63/64 is worth 1.2 grade points.
- The pass mark depends on your program. The table runs D down to 45, but the same KU rules page lists a 50% minimum for some programs and 40% for others. The Faculty of Pharmacy, for example, fails anything below 50. Check the rules for your own department before you assume a 46 is a pass.
How the Karachi University GPA Calculator Works It Out
KU multiplies each course’s grade point by its credit hours, adds those up, and divides by total credit hours. It’s the same weighted formula explained in our guide to calculating CGPA in Pakistan, just with KU’s grade points. A realistic BS Computer Science semester:
| Course | Credit Hours | Marks | Grade | Grade Point | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Data Structures | 3 | 82 | A- | 3.8 | 11.4 |
| Discrete Mathematics | 3 | 73 | B | 3.0 | 9.0 |
| Digital Logic Design | 3 | 66 | C+ | 2.4 | 7.2 |
| Digital Logic Lab | 1 | 88 | A | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| Pakistan Studies | 2 | 77 | B+ | 3.4 | 6.8 |
| Total | 12 | 38.4 |
Semester GPA = 38.4 รท 12 = 3.20. Paste the same marks into the Karachi University GPA calculator above and you will get 3.20. A generic 4.0 calculator would score the 82 as 3.67 and the 73 as 3.0 or 3.3 depending on the site, and give you a different answer.
KU CGPR: Your Cumulative Result
Your CGPR is total grade points across all semesters divided by total credit hours. It is not an average of semester GPAs. If your next semester is 15 credit hours at a 2.90 GPA (43.5 points), your CGPR becomes (38.4 + 43.5) รท (12 + 15) = 81.9 รท 27 = 3.03. The previous-CGPR boxes in the Karachi University GPA calculator do this for you. KU’s rules page also sets minimum CGPR requirements for some degrees, such as 2.2 for the MBA. Find the figure for your own program before your final year, not after.
KU CGPR to Percentage
KU does not publish a formula for turning CGPR into a percentage, and there is no single national conversion from HEC either. If a form asks for a percentage, use the rule that institution states, or attach your transcript. Our CGPA to percentage calculator shows the common Pakistani methods. For degree recognition and attestation, see the Higher Education Commission’s student services.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is CGPR at Karachi University?
CGPR (Cumulative Grade Point Ratio) is KU’s name for CGPA. It is calculated the same way: total grade points divided by total credit hours.
What is an A- worth at KU?
3.8 grade points, for 80 to 84 marks. Most Pakistani universities give an A- 3.67 or 3.7, which is why generic calculators get KU results wrong.
What is the passing percentage at Karachi University?
The grade table goes down to D at 45%, but KU’s rules list different minimum pass marks for different programs (50% for some, 40% for others). Check your department’s rules.
Does KU use relative grading?
No. KU’s semester table is absolute: your marks map to a fixed grade point regardless of how the class performed.
Can I use this calculator for affiliated colleges?
If your college follows KU’s semester rules, yes. Programs with their own rules, such as Law, may differ, so compare the table above with your result card.
