The UCP CGPA calculator below turns your University of Central Punjab letter grades and credit hours into a semester GPA in seconds, using the 4.0 scale printed on UCP transcripts. Pick a grade for each course, enter its credit hours, and press Calculate. The rest of this page explains how UCP weights each course, how your CGPA builds across semesters, and where the official rules are not public, so you know exactly what to double-check on your student portal.
UCP CGPA Calculator (4.0 Scale)
Add one row per course in the UCP CGPA calculator. A 3(2-1) course counts as 3 credit hours; if you are unsure what those numbers mean, our guide to credit hours in Pakistan breaks it down.
Previous CGPA (optional): over credit hours
UCP Grading Scale: Marks, Letter Grades and Grade Points
UCP does not publish its full grading policy on an open web page, so the table below is the scale reported on UCP transcripts and in international credential databases. It matches the percentage cutoffs the University of the Punjab uses for its semester system. Treat it as the working scale, and confirm the final word against the grading policy on your UCP portal or your course outline.
| Marks (%) | Letter Grade | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| 85 and above | A | 4.00 |
| 80 โ 84 | A- | 3.70 |
| 75 โ 79 | B+ | 3.30 |
| 70 โ 74 | B | 3.00 |
| 65 โ 69 | B- | 2.70 |
| 61 โ 64 | C+ | 2.30 |
| 58 โ 60 | C | 2.00 |
| 55 โ 57 | C- | 1.70 |
| 50 โ 54 | D | 1.00 |
| Below 50 | F | 0.00 |
Three things stand out. First, there is no A+ at UCP: 85% and 98% both earn the same 4.00, so chasing marks above 85 in one course does nothing for your CGPA. Second, there is no D+, so the jump from D (1.00) to C- (1.70) is the biggest gap on the scale. Moving a 54 to a 55 is worth more grade points than moving a 79 to an 80. Third, the pass line is 50%, which is stricter than UAF, where a fail is below 40%.
How the UCP CGPA Calculator Works Out Your Semester GPA
Every UCP course is weighted by its credit hours. Multiply each grade point by the course’s credit hours to get quality points, add them up, and divide by total credit hours. This is the same HEC-style formula explained step by step in our guide to calculating CGPA in Pakistan. Here is a realistic first-semester BSCS example you can check in the UCP CGPA calculator:
| Course | Credit Hours | Grade | Grade Points | Quality Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Programming Fundamentals | 4 | B+ | 3.30 | 13.20 |
| Calculus and Analytical Geometry | 3 | A- | 3.70 | 11.10 |
| Islamic Studies | 2 | A | 4.00 | 8.00 |
| English Composition | 3 | B | 3.00 | 9.00 |
| Applied Physics | 3 | C+ | 2.30 | 6.90 |
| Total | 15 | 48.20 |
Semester GPA = 48.20 รท 15 = 3.21. Notice what the credit hours did: the A in a 2-credit course added 8 quality points, while the B+ in the 4-credit programming course added 13.2. Your heaviest courses move your GPA the most, so that is where extra study time pays off.
How Your UCP CGPA Builds Across Semesters
Your CGPA is not the average of your semester GPAs. It is total quality points divided by total credit hours across every semester. Say your second semester is 18 credit hours at a 2.90 GPA (52.20 quality points). Your CGPA is (48.20 + 52.20) รท (15 + 18) = 100.40 รท 33 = 3.04. A simple average of 3.21 and 2.90 would give 3.06, which is wrong because the heavier semester pulls harder. The optional “previous CGPA” boxes in the UCP CGPA calculator above do this weighting for you.
Retakes, F Grades and Probation at UCP
UCP lets students clear an F by repeating the course, and transcripts show the original grade in brackets once it has been replaced. What we could not confirm from a public UCP source is whether the replacement grade is capped for improvement attempts, or the exact CGPA that triggers probation in your program, since these have differed between faculties. Check the academic rules section of your portal before you plan a retake, then run both outcomes through the UCP CGPA calculator. For the general mechanics, see our explainer on how CGPA changes after retaking a course.
UCP CGPA to Percentage
UCP does not publish an official CGPA-to-percentage formula, and HEC has not set one national conversion either. If an employer or admission form asks for a percentage, use the method that institution specifies, or attach your transcript. Our CGPA to percentage calculator shows the common Pakistani methods side by side. HEC’s own guidance on degree recognition and grading is on the Higher Education Commission website.
UCP vs PU and FAST Grading
UCP’s cutoffs line up with the University of the Punjab grading scale: an A from 85%, a 50% pass mark, and no plus grade above A. FAST-NUCES is stricter at the top. It needs 86% for an A and adds an A+ at 90%, though both carry 4.00. So the same 85% that earns a 4.00 at UCP earns a 3.67 (A-) at FAST. Keep that in mind when you compare a result from the UCP CGPA calculator with friends at other universities. For a wider comparison, see CGPA vs GPA explained.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the passing percentage at UCP?
50%. Anything below 50% is an F with 0.00 grade points, and a D (50โ54%) passes the course at 1.00.
Is there an A+ grade at UCP?
No. The highest grade on the UCP scale is A (85% and above), worth 4.00.
How do I calculate my UCP CGPA?
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add all the quality points from every semester, and divide by your total credit hours. The UCP CGPA calculator above does this automatically, including your previous CGPA.
Is 3.0 a good CGPA at UCP?
A 3.0 means a B average and clears most scholarship and master’s admission cut-offs in Pakistan, which usually start at 2.5 to 3.0. See our breakdown of what counts as a good GPA.
Is this the official UCP grading policy?
The scale here is the one reported on UCP transcripts. UCP has not published its full policy openly, so your student portal or course outline is the final authority.
