UAF Grading System Explained: Quality Points, Passing Marks and GPA Formula (2026)

The UAF grading system confuses a lot of students, and the internet isn’t helping. Search for it and you’ll find calculator sites that disagree on where an A starts, where a fail begins, and how quality points work. Some even copy the general HEC scale, which UAF doesn’t follow exactly.

This guide sticks to what’s consistent, explains why the numbers you see online don’t match, and shows you the one method that always gives you the right GPA: using the quality points printed on your own result.

When you’re ready to calculate, use our UAF CGPA Calculator.

UAF Grading System at a Glance

The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad uses a 4.00 scale with absolute grading. Your grade depends on your own marks, not on how the rest of the class performed.

GradeMarks rangeGrade points
A80% and above4.00 (flat)
BMiddle bandRises with your marks
CLower-middle bandRises with your marks
DLowest passing band (starts at 40%)Rises with your marks
FBelow 40%0.00

Three things make UAF different from most Pakistani universities:

  1. No plus or minus grades. There’s no A-, B+ or C-. You get A, B, C, D or F.
  2. An A starts at 80%, not 85%. Many generic calculators use 85%, which undercounts UAF students.
  3. Grade points rise inside each band. Two students with a B can earn different quality points. A 78% B is worth more than a 66% B.

Why UAF Calculators Online Don’t Agree

If you’ve tried three different UAF calculators and got three different answers, you’re not doing anything wrong. Here’s why it happens:

  • Some sites use the HEC plus/minus scale. That scale is correct for many universities, but not for UAF.
  • Some sites use one flat value per letter. For example, every B counts as 3.00. At UAF, a B’s value depends on your exact marks.
  • The exact band boundaries aren’t published in one easy public table. Different sites have copied different versions, so their B, C and D edges don’t match.

The fix is simple: don’t calculate quality points from percentages if you don’t have to. Your UAF result already tells you.

The Most Accurate Way: Use Your Result’s Quality Points

Your UAF LMS result shows each course with its credit hours, marks, grade and quality points (QP). Those quality points come straight from the university’s own table, so they’re always correct.

To get your exact GPA:

  1. Open your semester result on the UAF LMS.
  2. Add up the quality points of all credit courses.
  3. Add up the credit hours of the same courses.
  4. Divide total quality points by total credit hours.

That’s it. No lookup table, no guessing where band edges fall.

UAF GPA Formula (Semester GPA)

GPA = Total Quality Points รท Total Credit Hours

At UAF, quality points = grade points ร— credit hours for each course. Because grade points rise within each band, the quality points on your result may not be a round number.

Example

CourseCredit hoursQuality points (from result)
Course 1312.0
Course 2310.0
Course 326.0
Course 413.0
Total931.0

GPA = 31 รท 9 = 3.44

The quality points here are illustrative. Use the exact values from your own result.

How to Calculate CGPA in UAF

Your CGPA uses the same idea, across every semester you’ve completed:

CGPA = Quality points from all semesters รท Credit hours from all semesters

Don’t average your semester GPAs. A semester with 18 credit hours should count more than one with 12. Averaging GPAs gives the wrong answer whenever your credit loads differ.

If you’re not sure how credit hours work, our guide to credit hours in Pakistan explains the 3(2-1) notation and why heavy courses move your CGPA more.

UAF Passing Marks and Minimum CGPA

  • Passing marks per course: 40%. Below 40% is an F with zero grade points.
  • Minimum CGPA for good standing: commonly cited as 2.00 for undergraduates. Postgraduate programmes often need around 2.50 before thesis work. Rules differ between faculties, so confirm with your department.

Non-Credit Courses at UAF

Non-credit courses, such as the Holy Quran course or tutorials, don’t count in your GPA or CGPA. Leave them out of both the quality point total and the credit hour total. Including them is one of the most common reasons students get a wrong answer.

Failed and Repeated Courses

An F adds zero quality points, but its credit hours still count, so it pulls your CGPA down. When you repeat and pass the course, the new grade usually replaces the old one in your CGPA. How the old attempt appears on your transcript depends on your programme’s rules.

We explain the maths of repeats in CGPA After Retaking a Course.

UAF GPA to Percentage

UAF prints your marks and percentage on your result card, so use that number for official forms. The common formula (CGPA รท 4 ร— 100) is only a rough estimate. It’s especially rough at UAF because grade points don’t rise evenly across the scale. For example, anything from 80% to 100% becomes the same 4.00.

For the general conversion methods, see CGPA to Percentage.

Tips to Raise Your GPA Under the UAF System

  1. Push borderline marks over 80%. Crossing into the A band gives you the full 4.00.
  2. Every mark counts in B, C and D. Because grade points rise within bands, a few extra marks always help. They never “don’t matter”.
  3. Protect your 3 and 4 credit courses first. They carry the most weight.
  4. Clear failed courses early. An F keeps dragging your CGPA every semester until it’s replaced.
  5. Plan ahead. Use the Target GPA Calculator to see what next semester needs to be.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the grading system of UAF?

UAF uses an absolute grading system on a 4.00 scale with grades A, B, C, D and F. An A starts at 80% and is worth a flat 4.00. B, C and D grade points rise with your marks, and anything below 40% is an F.

What are the passing marks at UAF?

The minimum passing mark in a course is 40%. Below that, you get an F with zero grade points.

Does UAF use A-, B+ or other plus/minus grades?

No. UAF uses only A, B, C, D and F. Calculators that use plus/minus grades aren’t following the UAF system.

How do I calculate my GPA at UAF?

Add the quality points of all your credit courses from your LMS result, then divide by the total credit hours of those courses.

How is CGPA calculated at UAF?

Divide the total quality points from all completed semesters by the total credit hours from all completed semesters. Don’t simply average your semester GPAs.

Do non-credit courses count in UAF GPA?

No. Non-credit courses like the Holy Quran course are excluded from both quality points and credit hours.

Why do UAF CGPA calculators give different results?

Many use the general HEC plus/minus scale or a flat value per letter grade. UAF’s grade points rise within each band, so the most accurate method is to use the quality points printed on your own result.

Final Word

The UAF grading system isn’t hard. It’s just different from the generic HEC scale that most websites copy. Remember four things: an A starts at 80%, there are no plus/minus grades, grade points rise within each band, and your result card’s quality points are always the most accurate source.
